Don't Be Intimidated
Some people considering membership express the concern that they haven't "perfected" being a Quaker yet. Perhaps you are restless (or sleepy) at meeting for worship, feel as though you aren't living the testimonies fully, or just aren't as spiritual as others in the meeting. We all feel this way! Quakers are known as a religion of seekers. Becoming a member is a declaration of desire to pursue a path, not the arrival at the destination. It is the statement of intent to deepen your relationship to God continually. Becoming a member is joining your journey with others doing the same thing. If you are not yet assured, talk to members! None of us feels like we've achieved "it" and we go through cycles, times of darkness and times of delightful communication with God, times of feeling disconnected and times of opening of the heart to everyone around us.
