QUAKER WOMEN'S ANNUAL RETREAT
Transitions: Being Pushed, Taking the Leap or Staying Put March 11-13, 2011 Highlands Presbyterian Camp and Retreat Center, Allenspark, CO (Registration forms must be postmarked no later than Friday, February 11) Theme for the weekend: Transitions are part of life, whether losing pets, changing careers, finishing a degree, or changing marital status. This weekend will focus on handling changes in our lives successfully. Speakers Verna Cavey and Mary Ceynowa will provide information about adult developmental phases as a framework for discussions. Verna is an educator and researcher in social and behavioral sciences and author of a report to colleges on educating students aged 50+, entitled Ready or Not-Baby Boomers Comin' 'Round the Bend. Mary is a licensed professional counselor and consultant experienced at helping families and individuals navigate their transitions. The weekend will include humor, song, dance, poetry, and art. Queries: What has surprised you about your transitions? What changes have you been resisting and why? What helps you when you become stuck in a situation that needs to change? How do you keep your psychic balance during transitions? What have you learned that would help someone going through the same transitions? Plans: The retreat begins on Friday night with an informal snack potluck of finger foods that do not require refrigeration, as well as introductions. Saturday morning will bring before-breakfast stretching or yoga (if there's a leader), worship-sharing and introductions for those who join us later, as well as talks by the invited speakers. Following lunch and free time, we'll have small-group discussions on tools we've used to embrace or manage transitions, followed by creative work. Evening activities will include a sacred song group and games. Sunday we'll have worship sharing, cabin cleaning, meeting for worship, evaluations, and a short business meeting (if necessary). Meals and Accommodations: There are two options for lodging: 1) Two modern cabins with dorm-style bunk beds, shared bathrooms, and lounge; and 2) One of three retreat center rooms (hotel-style) that sleep 4-5 people each. The camp provides meals for both carnivores and vegetarians beginning with breakfast on Saturday and ending with lunch on Sunday. If you have specific food requirements, the camp encourages you to contact Stuart by e-mail,
