The six members of the Membership Guidance Committee (MGC) are Andrew Banks, Gail Hoffman, Mollie Graves, Jane Grogan, Kris Louden, and Jerry Peterson. Gail Hoffman and Jerry Peterson are co-clerks. We meet monthly during/after Sunday potluck.
Membership Guidance cares for the process of membership in the Meeting as presented in the minute on Meaning of Membership approved 12th Month, 2007. This process mainly involves convening clearness committees for membership and assisting in the integration of new members. In addition we are responsible for assisting Oversight in contacting "unseen Friends" to determine what relationship they want to keep with the meeting, and researching and making recommendations to the meeting on removing long absent Friends from membership.
This year we reviewed and updated the suggested reading list and queries for new members and also created a checklist for processing new member applications. We also had conversations around the topic of how welcoming MVFM is to new attenders and prospective members. These "brainstorming" conversations might result in some suggestions for the meeting to consider.
The removals process has been the most frustrating due to the lack of one comprehensive data base with member information. This process begins when the Archivist provides us with a list of all members. This year we have had a reprieve on this because of lack of a current membership list.
Since our report last July, the following attenders have been approved for membership:
Eric Smith, Rebecca Wright, and Bente Birkeland De Booy. The clearness committee for Tom Coiner is currently in process.
MGC also assisted with the membership transfer of Chuck Franklin.
